0-9 completed credits: explore options and transition successfully into college.
- Talk to your advisor about registering for ACA 122, a helpful class covering career and academic choices.
- Explore careers and college majors.
- Learn about the local job market.
- Complete your Handshake profile.
10-29 completed credits: clarify goals – at this point you need to know what your major is and where you would like to go if you are a transfer student.
- Meet with a career counselor if you are still undecided about your career plans/major.
- Write your résumé or transition your existing one to match your field.
- Get involved in a student club or volunteer.
- Job shadow to learn more about a field of interest.
- Attend Career Services events to network and learn about jobs.
30-49 completed credits: gain experience – transfer students are usually taking transfer electives at this point.
- Gain experience through an apprenticeship, internship or work-based learning class (co-op).
- Go on college tours for prospective colleges if you are a transfer student. Begin working on your applications.
- Update your Handshake profile with any new experience and skills. Save Handshake searches and follow collections.
- Create a LinkedIn profile and follow the Central Piedmont Career Services group.
- Conduct informational interviews.
- Practice interviewing with Big Interview or a mock interview in Career Services.
50+ completed credits: commit to a plan – get ready to graduate or finish what you need to transfer.
- Take another apprenticeship, internship or work-based learning course (co-op) to gain as much experience as possible.
- Finish college applications if you are transferring.
- Check Handshake frequently for jobs and paid internships, career events, and opportunities to connect with professionals in your field.
- Fine tune your résumé and update your LinkedIn profile.
- Transferring? Contact Career Services for help locating a career counselor at your new school.
- Continue practicing and perfecting your interview skills.
