  • Crisis Mental Health Situations

    In a life-threatening emergency, please dial 911 immediately for assistance

    • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: a 24/7 suicide crisis line and information resource
    • Safe Alliance: a 24/7 helpline for anyone who has experienced sexual trauma and/or violence from a family member or intimate partner; also provides advocacy, resources, and ongoing counseling
    • Daymark Recovery Services: 24/7 mental health assessment, no appointment needed, crisis intervention, 23 hour observation unit, assistance with referrals for mental health and substance use.
    • Atrium Behavioral Health Emergency Room: A dedicated psychiatric emergency department that provides treatment for a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. Our center is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Mental Health

    • Find Support Groups: a good starting point to find groups and organizations providing a supportive community
    • Mental Health America of the Central Carolinas: advocacy, information, and resources for the Charlotte metropolitan area; find support, search for therapists, access screenings, and get involved
    • Atrium Behavioral Health Care: Atrium Behavioral Health evaluates, diagnoses and treats adults aged 18 and older who are experiencing a mental illness. They provide a range of treatment options, therapeutic approaches and state-of-the-art medical interventions.
    • Psychology Today: A database where individuals can search for qualified mental health professionals within their region, by specialty and accepted health insurances.
  • Community Resources

    • Charlotte Housing Authority (INLIVIAN): learn about and apply for affordable housing options
    • Crisis Assistance Ministry: emergency assistance with rent and utilities; furniture ministry; clothing, shoes, and small household items through the free store; assistance and advocacy to help move toward self-sufficiency
    • Find Help: Search and connect to support. Financial assistance, food pantries, medical care, and other free or reduced-cost services.
    • Just 1 Call: a one-stop source for information and assistance for Mecklenburg County; though designed with seniors and adults with disabilities in mind, this comprehensive list of community agencies and services is useful for anyone seeking assistance
    • Legal Services of Southern Piedmont: legal advice and representation for people meeting low-income guidelines; Health Insurance Navigators are available to guide you through your options
    • Roof Above (formerly Men's Shelter of Charlotte): emergency shelter for men 18 and older; support services for transitioning from homelessness

    • Salvation Army Center of Hope: emergency shelter for women and children; comprehensive support services; referrals for individuals and families not meeting the Center’s criteria

    • Camino: Camino offers a wide range of services, including but not limited to, general healthcare, behavioral therapy, upward mobility, professional development, and education.
    • Despierta:The mission at Despierta is to transform the lives of Latina women through mental health and educational programs, empowering them to develop their talents and become leaders within their communities.
    • El Puente Hispano: El Puente Hispano is committed to advancing health equity by providing access to essential services, supporting mental health, and addressing barriers that disproportionately affect the Latino community.
  • Substance Use Resources

    • Dilworth Center: Intensive Outpatient services (IOP). Disease education, adult family program, group therapy, mental health counseling and twelve-step groups are included in the IOP.
    • Anuvia: Outpatient, intensive outpatient, short-term substance use treatment programs, support groups and services offered in Spanish.
    • McLeod Center for Wellbeing: Offers a variety of services for substance abuse, addiction, detox, rehabilitation, and education.
  • LGBTQIA+ Resources

    • Time Out Youth: Fosters community, sponsors programs, and provides advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth (ages 11 – 20)
    • Charlotte Trans Health: Charlotte Trans Health (CTH) is a compassionate collective of healthcare providers from diverse backgrounds committed to a mission centered on reducing health and healthcare disparities for those with diverse sexual and gender identities.

    Self-Care at the Central: The library's Self-Care Collection includes various tools to help you manage stress, improve focus, and relax. These devices are available for check out at all library locations and are available for student, staff, and faculty use.
