What is a Sponsorship for Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET)?

A sponsorship means that a leader from a North Carolina law enforcement agency, like a police chief or sheriff, has met with you and agreed to recommend you for the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program.

Important things to know:

  • Being sponsored does not guarantee a job now or in the future.
  • You are not required to accept a job with that agency after finishing the program.
  • You can apply and pay for the course on your own without sponsorship.

Why get sponsored?

If an approved agency sponsors you, the North Carolina Community College System covers tuition and fees.

How to get sponsored:

In your BLET application packet, you'll find:

  • a list of agencies you can contact
  • names and phone numbers for each agency
  • a sponsorship form that the agency must sign

You can seek sponsorship from agencies not on the list, as long as they are municipal, county, state, or federal law enforcement agencies in North Carolina. If you have questions or need help connecting with an agency, let us know. We’re happy to help.
