Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced
Join the Central Piedmont library for this Women's History Month event to help us continue to celebrate the centennial of women's suffrage in the United States.
On August 18, 1920, the United States passed the 19th Amendment to the Constitution giving women the right to vote. The path to suffrage proved a long and difficult journey for women as well as for other minority groups in America. The history of the struggle illustrates the perils as well as the successes in the fight for equality. Our centennial celebration continues as we look back at the journey, discussing the barriers to suffrage and the defining moments that brought victory through the 19th Amendment.
Discussion will be led by:
- Kathryn Wells, Central Piedmont history instructor
- Susan Autry, Central Piedmont history professor and Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence faculty fellow
