Congratulations, Graduates!

It's time to celebrate the monumental and hard-earned accomplishments of our summer 2020, fall 2020, and spring 2021 graduates. From the degree, diploma, and cytotechnology certificate program, to the high school equivalency, and work and learn program — we congratulate you.

Students, visit the Graduation Services page to learn more about the requirements to graduate, how to apply to graduate, the requirements to participate in this spring's ceremony, how to get your cap and gown, and more.

Ceremony Details

We will have a series of outdoor ceremonies (keep reading to find your ceremony time).

  • Tickets

In order to comply with the current COVID-19 gathering restrictions, this year's commencement allows a limited number of people and requires tickets.

Graduates, we will email you your three guest tickets beginning Wednesday, May 5. (Be sure to reactivate your email account ASAP, even if you never lost access to your email during the technology interruptions.)

  • Graduate Day-of Information

    • Have your cap and gown on when you arrive. (You are not allowed to decorate your cap.)
    • Park in Decks 2 or 3; additional accessible parking will be available in Deck 4.
    • Be sure to arrive no less than 45 minutes before your assigned ceremony time to check in.
    • After you park/arrive, head to the check-in table on Elizabeth Ave, between the Sloan-Morgan Building and Overcash Center (ceremony map (PDF)). At check-in, you'll get your Central Piedmont-branded mask, name card, and any honor cords you're eligible for.
    • Once you've checked in, you will line up on Elizabeth Avenue with all the other graduates.
    • You will be prompted to process in and be seated.
    • When your name and program is announced, go across the stage. You will be handed a commencement program and have your photo taken with President Dr. Deitemeyer. You will also have the opportunity to have your picture taken at the end of the stage ramp.
    • After you finish going across the stage, do not return to your seat — exit directly out to Elizabeth Ave.

You will not get your diploma at the ceremony — we will mail it to you. You will be able to order your photo later through GradImages.

  • Guest Day-of Information

    • Park in Decks 2 or 3; additional accessible parking will be available in Deck 4.
    • Check-in on 4th Street, near Deck 4. Be prepared to show your tickets for entry (can be printed or shown electronically).
    • Seating will be socially distanced.

  • COVID-19 Information

The college is following current state COVID-19 guidelines (PDF). This means:

    • We are limiting the amount of people gathered in one place.
    • We will enforce social distancing.
    • You are required to wear a face covering anytime you are indoors.
    • We encourage you to wear a face covering while outside.

We will provide masks for graduates and guests when you arrive. Graduates: if you choose to wear a mask while outside, we ask that you wear the provided Central Piedmont logo mask as part of your commencement regalia.

Do not attend the ceremony if you:

    • are not feeling well
    • have symptoms of COVID-19, including cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell
    • have come into contact with someone with COVID-19 in the 10 days before the ceremony

  • Inclement Weather Plan

We have plans for if the weather doesn't cooperate on the ceremony days; adjustments may need to be made the day of the ceremony. We will communicate any changes here and by email. Please keep flexibility in mind when planning your day.

In the event of a thunderstorm during a ceremony, we will ask graduates only to move inside to Halton Theater in the Overcash Center to finish the ceremony. All guests will be required to return to their vehicles due to indoor capacity limits, but can watch your graduate walk across the stage using the ceremony live stream.
