About Career Development Week

Career Development Week, hosted by The Office of Mentoring and Coaching in conjunction with Career Services, will be held on November 1-3, 2022, during National Career Development Month.

The events planned for this week are designed to offer students opportunities to learn about professional development topics and experiences. Sessions will include workshops on using LinkedIn, resume development, mock interviews, employer panels, and a meet and greet. 

Goals

Career Development Week events will gather employers from different industries to engage and share professional insight and information with students. Employers will speak about current employment opportunities at their companies as well as discuss the skills necessary to be successful in this current job market.

Schedule of Events

All workshops will be facilitated by employers; a Central Piedmont staff member will be present at each session.

  • November 1, 2022

    Resume Development Workshop
    10-11 a.m.
    Parr Center, Room 1010

    Employers will share the basic layout of an acceptable professional resume with students, as well as provide insight on resumes from an employer perspective. They will discuss the do’s and don'ts of a resume and the key factors that catches the eye of an employer when reviewing resumes.


    Clothing Closet Exhibition 
    11 a.m.-2 p.m.
    Parr Center, Main Lobby, First Floor

    Central Piedmont students will be given information on how to visit the Professional Clothing Closet. The closet provides professional clothing free for students to help them prepare for interviews and their career. 


    LinkedIn Workshop 
    1:30-2:30 p.m.
    Parr Center, Room 1010

    Employers will share the benefits of LinkedIn with students, the different ways that students can use LinkedIn to search for employment, as well as network with colleagues and employers. Employers will also describe how they use LinkedIn to search for talent in their respective industries.


    Handshake/Big Interview Virtual Workshop
    3-4 p.m.

    Career Services staff from Central Piedmont Community College will facilitate this workshop to introduce students to Handshake and Big Interview, which are the job board and interview preparation software used by the college. These platforms will assist with job search, resume reviews, communicating with employers, interview preparation and much more.

    Employers will share the benefits of LinkedIn with students, the different ways that students can use LinkedIn to search for employment, as well as network with colleagues and employers. Employers will also describe how they use LinkedIn to search for talent in their respective industries.


    Employer Panel / Meet and Greet
    12-2 p.m.
    Parr Center, Room 1000

    During the panel, employers from different industries will share a brief overview of their professional journey, discuss current industry challenges and opportunities as well as share the important skills, characteristics and qualities that they look for in individuals seeking employment at their company.

    Study Abroad and Career Readiness: How it Works Together Workshop

    Studying abroad is so much more than just taking a trip to a different country. This type of experience changes you by providing a global perspective that translates into marketable skills in today’s globalized world. Learn about the benefits of these experiences and why they are particularly beneficial for underrepresented students. Students who participated in the South Africa study abroad trip from summer 2022 will share what they learned.

    Professional Conversations

    This event mirrors mock interviews in five minute intervals. Each employer will have one question to ask a student. Within five minutes, students will answer the interview question as well as get feedback on their response from an employer.
