49erNext Eligibility Requirements

49erNext is a guaranteed admission program for select community college students who plan to transfer to UNC Charlotte to pursue a bachelor’s degree. To be considered for 49erNext at Central Piedmont, students must meet eligibility requirements to be considered for the 49erNext program, to remain in the 49erNext Program, and to transfer to UNC Charlotte as a 49erNext student.

Requirements to be considered for the 49erNext program

  • Be a first time, full-time college student (students who have taken courses after high school completion at another college will not be considered )
  • Have an official high school transcript or equivalent on file at Central Piedmont.
  • Be pursuing an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate in Engineering degree. (Associate in Applied Science and Associate in Fine Arts are ineligible.)
  • Enrolled as an active student at Central Piedmont 
  • Have at least a cumulative 2.0 grade point average (GPA) 
  • Have a minimum of 24 credit hours remaining in their degree program. 
  • Plan to pursue a major offered at UNC Charlotte except the following: Fine Arts, Architecture, Nursing or Engineering Technology. 
  • Submit a 49erNext application by the deadline

Requirements to remain in the 49erNext Program

  • Participate in mandatory advising sessions every semester 
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 2.0 
  • Stay enrolled in an eligible major*
  • Continue active enrollment at Central Piedmont* 

Students who change majors to ineligible programs or are not enrolled at Central Piedmont for at least 3 consecutive semesters or more, will be removed from 49erNext and will be notified of their removal via their Central Piedmont student email. 

To transfer to UNC Charlotte as a 49erNext student

  • Complete an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or Associate in Engineering degree.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 2.0.
  • Complete the UNC Charlotte admissions application, and send all required transcripts and documents by set deadlines.
  • Participate in orientation at UNC Charlotte before the start of first semester at UNC Charlotte.
