Student Emergency Grant
Are you experiencing sudden, unexpected or unforeseen occurrences that require immediate attention and threaten your ability to stay enrolled at the college? If so, then you may be eligible for a short-term Student Emergency Grant. Funds are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Covered expense examples:
- Temporary loss of income
- Temporary loss of childcare
- Temporary housing needs due to homelessness or sudden loss of housing
- Replacement of essential items dues to fire, theft, or other natural disaster
- Safety needs (e.g., changing a lock)
- Medical or dental emergencies
- Transportation emergencies
Student Emergency Grant eligibility
To be eligible for the Student Emergency Grant, you must:
- have an immediate financial need due to sudden, unexpected or unforeseen occurrences that require immediate attention
- be registered at Central Piedmont during the semester in which the funds would apply
- be enrolled in at least five college credit hours or, if taking continuing education courses, eight CEUs
- maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0
- not have received a Student Emergency Grant within the same semester
- be in good standing with the college, which includes academic and behavioral standards
- meet the 10% attendance census requirement prior to disbursal (view disbursal dates)
- complete the FAFSA for the current academic year

The Student Emergency Grant is not intended to pay for routine expenses or be a consistent resource to supplement your educational expenses. Each circumstance is unique, and the amount of the award may vary. Emergency assistance may be allocated to non-eligible students on a case-by-case basis as determined by the Student Emergency Grant committee. Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis and/or until the established funds have been depleted. Finish Line Grant
Too often, financial hardships such as unexpected healthcare costs, childcare expenses, or car and transportation issues prevent students who are on the cusp of completing their program from doing so. The Finish Line Grant is designed to assist you in addressing financial situations that would prevent you from continuing or completing your program of study.
Covered expenses: examples
The Finish Line Grant may assist with direct payments to vendors for allowable expenses, such as the following.
- Transportation assistance and auto repairs (excluding regular maintenance)
- Childcare expenses
- Housing and utilities (internet and phone service not allowed)
- Medical needs
Submitted expenses must not be past due.
Finish Line Grant eligibility
You may be eligible to receive the Finish Line Grant if you:
- are enrolled in a curriculum program that will lead to a credential
- have a valid government-issued ID
- are in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA) and currently attending classes
- completed the FAFSA for the current academic year

Child Care Assistance Grant
The Child Care Assistance Grant can help you with your childcare needs by reimbursing you for childcare expenses (babysitting or daycare) during the fall and spring semesters — it does not pay for summer childcare.
Childcare during week-long breaks is not covered, unless your child’s daycare requires you to pay to hold your spot.
Child Care Assistance Grant eligibility
You must:
- be currently enrolled in a for-college-credit program
- have successfully completed a minimum of 12 college credit hours at Central Piedmont
- have at least a 2.0 GPA
- be enrolled for at least six credit hours of college-level classes
- complete the FAFSA
Central Piedmont employees are not eligible.
Disbursement of funds
The Child Care Assistance Grant is funded by the state of North Carolina, with Central Piedmont's funds administered by the Financial Aid Office. If you are awarded a grant, you must submit paperwork to Financial Aid via email by the end of each month to receive your reimbursement.
We receive the grant funds and reimburse grant recipients for their childcare expenses after the NC governor passes the annual NC general annual budget. Make sure that your ability to attend school does not depend on you receiving the grant. Have a backup plan in place.
