Community and civic engagement strengthen communities and cultivates leadership by addressing societal challenges and make a positive impact on society through actions such as volunteerism, service learning, healthy democracy, and public awareness initiatives. Outside the classroom, the Community and Civic Engagement leads and supports a variety of programs and events, including:

We foster meaningful relationships with nonprofit organizations in our community to provide opportunities for our students to serve.

Central Piedmont hosts a Fall Volunteer Fair each year at several campuses. Volunteer Fairs are a great way for our community partners to get in front of our students to talk about your available service opportunities. Please email us for more information on campus-specific volunteer fairs.
We also host a Networking Breakfast for our wonderful faculty and community partners at the conclusion of each academic year. Please contact us with any questions.

Service-learning is a teaching pedagogy method that combines service to the community with academic instruction and focuses on critical thinking and reflection.
Service-learning enables students to put theory into action and meets two of the critical core competencies: Critical Thinking and Personal Growth and Development. Students earn academic credit for showing learning and growth during a reflection component built into your course. Service-learning staff is always available to assist you in any way - please do not hesitate to reach out to the coordinator at your campus.
