Library service and use

Library chat is our first-line service when you need assistance. Get help with starting research, library databases, citations and formatting, Microsoft 365 or Brightspace.

Appointments must be scheduled at least 12 hours in advance. You may not book more than one appointment per day and no more than two per week for a particular assignment. Walk-ins are subject to librarian availability. Appointments are limited to 30 minutes at a time.

If you cannot make a scheduled appointment, you are asked to cancel the appointment. Repeated no-shows may result in a loss of appointment privileges.

Librarians do not proofread student papers for grammar and mechanics.

Noise policy

This policy pertains to students in the library in general as well as to students in study rooms.

Students are expected to follow noise guidelines in the library as indicated by signs and/or staff instructions. Students being exceedingly loud in the library may be given one verbal warning by library staff. If the same student(s) are determined by library staff to be exceedingly loud a second time on the same day, they will be asked to leave the library for the day. In the case of a group, all students in the group or in the study room will be asked to leave for the day.

If a student is asked to leave more than twice within the same semester, additional restrictions may be enforced.

  1. The study rooms are intended for current students, faculty, and staff. Exceptions will be made for recent graduates with pending state or national examinations relevant to their Central Piedmont studies.
  2. Certain behaviors and activities are not allowed in the study rooms.  All users must adhere to the Central Piedmont Student Code of Conduct.  Additionally, the following activities are not allowed:
    1. Running a business from study rooms
    2. First-person shooter games displayed on college-provided monitors
    3. Blocking windows or doors so that staff are not able to see into the study rooms
    4. Anything that violates the Student Code of Conduct. Library staff are the final word on study room activities and behaviors.
  3. When you reserve a room and check out the key, you are responsible for anything that happens in and to the space while it is reserved in your name.
  4. On any calendar day, you may reserve a maximum of TWO HOURS. If you wish or need to reserve space in multiple rooms, please note that you are limited to a total of 2 hours across all of your reservations for that day. If you attempt to exceed these limits, your reservations may be canceled, and your time slots will be available to other groups.
  5. Upon confirming your reservation, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. Save this e-mail as it will be used to settle disputes about who has reserved and has permission to use the room. You will have a FIFTEEN MINUTE GRACE PERIOD for your reservation. If you are not present within fifteen minutes of the start of your reserved time and someone else wants to use that room, you will lose your reserved time. The staff computer clock and your booking confirmation e-mail will be used to settle any disputes over time.
  6. The study rooms are very popular, so please cancel your reservation if you will not be using the space. To do so, simply click the link provided in your room booking confirmation e-mail.
  7. Students arriving early for a reservation will be admitted no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the reservation time.
