High school equivalency (GED® and HiSET®)

For community members looking to complete their high school education, Central Piedmont provides access to the two primary equivalency pathways recognized in North Carolina: GED testing is a four-part, computer-based assessment; HiSET testing is a five-part assessment, available in both computer and paper formats.

Create an account on GED.com or hiset.org to pay for and schedule your tests.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP®)

CLEP allows individuals to demonstrate college-level proficiency in subjects they have mastered through independent study, professional experience or previous schooling. Many colleges and universities grant credit for qualifying CLEP scores.

Purchase your exam through the College Board website, then schedule a proctoring appointment at a Central Piedmont campus.

Professional certification and licensure

Enhance your career or maintain your professional standing by taking industry-recognized exams at certified centers. Central Piedmont partners with leading testing providers to offer a wide range of certifications.

Schedule your exam directly through the specific testing provider's website (e.g., Pearson Vue). During registration, select Central Piedmont as your preferred testing site.

Nursing and professional health testing

Central Piedmont testing centers facilitate specialized assessments for healthcare professionals and students, including the TEAS and the Practical Nursing Comprehensive Predictor.

Create an account through ATI Nursing Education to purchase the assessment and then schedule a testing session.

Make-up course testing

Make-up course testing allows Central Piedmont instructors the freedom to have their make-up test(s) proctored in a quiet, secure environment in the Testing Center.

The Testing Center can help instructors by proctoring make-up tests for students who have missed an exam. Make-up testing is normally limited to five or fewer students who missed a particular test. If additional students require testing, just let us know and we'll be happy to work with you.

The Testing Center does not administer midterm or final exams. If you have a special circumstance, we will be happy to work with you.

To schedule your make-up test, reach out to the testing center location where you'd like to take your test.

You will need to show your valid photo ID, such as a Central Piedmont student ID (preferred), driver's license, military ID or passport, when you check in for the test.

Before you take your make-up test, ask your instructor which testing aids (like calculators, dictionaries, books, etc.) you can use on the make-up test. If calculators are allowed on your make-up test, you need to bring your own calculator. The Testing Center will provide scratch paper.

You are not allowed to access your cell phone, smartwatch or other electronic devices during your make-up test under any circumstances. When you arrive, you must completely power down and store these devices.

Distance proctoring for other institutions

The Testing Center provides fee-based exam proctoring services for students in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg and surrounding communities who are enrolled in distance learning courses at other colleges, or individuals pursuing certification or licensure exams. If you are taking a Central Piedmont online course, please contact your Central Piedmont instructor for further information regarding testing options.

Fees are waived for students taking a distance learning exam for a fellow North Carolina community college. For all others, proctor fees for distance learning are $20. Fees are subject to change.

You will need to pay the day of your exam at our Cashier's office. We can only accept cash, card, check, or money order at this time. Please pay the proctoring fee at the Cashier's Office BEFORE coming to the Testing Center.

The testing center ensures the integrity and security of each exam through identification verification and supervision in a secure environment. Trained test proctors are able to monitor students through face-to-face proctoring and continuous video surveillance.

Proctoring services are generally available Monday through Friday during daytime hours and are dependent on the proctor's schedule. Proctoring services are not available on dates that the college is closed.

It is your responsibility to ensure you will have enough time to complete your exam based upon our hours of operation. Because our primary responsibility is to our Central Piedmont students, space is limited, so schedule your appointment(s) early. To ensure proctor availability, we request 1–2 weeks advance notice. Some schools/credentialing agencies require the proctor to complete an authorization form. If so, send this to your proctor at your earliest convenience.

Once the test scheduling form is submitted, a proctor will contact you within 1–3 business days to confirm your appointment(s). Share our contact information with your school/credentialing agency so they will know where to send your exam(s). If you need to cancel an appointment, please contact your proctor immediately.

Bring a valid photo ID (driver's license) and any other materials specified by your instructor.

Leave non-testing materials at home or in your car.

In the event of inclement weather or other emergency situations, please listen to area radio and television stations for announcements regarding the operation of the college.

Some exams may need to be shipped to or from our testing center. If so, please use the following shipping information. If the exam is to be returned via FedEx, UPS, or DHL, a prepaid envelope is required. FedEx is highly recommended.
