Credit for Prior Learning

Students registered in 2025 have so far earned 23,714 credits for 7,409 courses worth around $3,132,000.

You may be able to earn credit for college-level classes through Credit for Prior Learning. This is separate from simply transferring college credits from other colleges and universities to Central Piedmont.

A minimum of 25% of credits within the degree program must be earned in residence at Central Piedmont.

To receive Credit for Prior Learning, you must be enrolled in a curriculum program to which the credit will directly apply (per college policy).

To earn credit for a listed standardized exam, simply have the testing company send your official score report directly to the Records Office.

Applications

To earn credit, please complete the Credit for Prior Learning form. When the form opens, log in to MyConnect using your Central Piedmont student email address. In the form, you will choose the correct academic department and enter the course, certification or experience you want to get credit for, based on the Other Credit Types listed on this Credit for Prior Learning page.

Fill out one form for each course, certification or experience you are requesting credit for.

If you do not yet have a Central Piedmont student email account, you can apply to the college, which is free, or use the contact info for Credit for Prior Learning to ask questions.

Military Credits

To earn credit for Basic Training 1 or 2, or for courses taken while in the military, simply have your DD-214 and military transcripts sent to Central Piedmont Student Records.

Anything Else

If you have training, certifications, or experience that aren’t listed but you think should count for credit, fill out the form(s) on this page in the Applications section and send it to the Associate Dean. The Associate Dean will review it to see if credit can be given.
