Cancellation and refund policy
The $100 application fee is non-refundable. Refunds for other program fees are considered on a case-by-case basis and are time-sensitive. Refunds are unlikely within 60 days of departure. Central Piedmont course refunds follow the college’s standard refund policy.
Each program has its own cancellation and refund policy. Refund requests will be evaluated according to the following guidelines:
- Individualized consideration: Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to account for unique circumstances.
- Program-specific policies: Refund amounts, timelines, and eligibility vary by program.
- Deadlines: After a specified date, participants may no longer qualify for refunds. This date will be clearly stated on each program page and upon acceptance.
Participants are encouraged to review all policies carefully before committing to a study abroad program.
Technical standards
Observation
Participants must be able to gather accurate information in unfamiliar environments, including settings where English may not be the primary language.
Communication
Participants are expected to:
- communicate effectively using a variety of methods
- engage respectfully with group members
- interpret verbal and nonverbal cues in interpersonal and cross-cultural contexts
- navigate communication challenges when English is not the primary language
Motor / physical skills
Participants must have sufficient physical ability to meet program demands, which may include:
- extended walking or hiking
- carrying personal belongings
- climbing stairs
- participating in outdoor activities in varying weather conditions
- long periods of travel across different modes of transportation
- navigating crowded environments
- accommodations approved through Disability Services may be requested and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis
Intellectual, integrative and behavioral expectations
Participants are expected to:
- demonstrate maturity, self-discipline, and sound judgment
- act in a manner that reflects positively on the college and respects local cultural norms
- remain free from the influence of illegal drugs and alcohol during program activities
- use conflict resolution skills and maintain professionalism in group settings
- exhibit integrity, compassion, motivation, and strong interpersonal skills
Flexibility and adaptability
Participants must be able to adjust respectfully and effectively to changing conditions, including:
- schedule or itinerary changes
- delays and travel disruptions
- shared living environments
- unfamiliar foods and customs
- language barriers
- weather conditions and jet lag
Professional and program expectations
Participants are expected to:
- respond promptly to communications from the Center for Global Engagement and program staff
- arrive on time and be prepared for all program activities
- meet deadlines for assignments and program requirements
- maintain consistent attendance and active participation
- demonstrate integrity, honesty, and accountability in all academic and program-related work, including proper attribution of sources
Center for Global Engagement
The Central Piedmont Center for Global Engagement serves as a resource to students, faculty, staff and members of the Charlotte community to explore customs, histories, arts, cuisines, religions and more from around the world. By facilitating globally inspired conferences, events, curricula and programs – such as study abroad – the Center for Global Engagement helps students and community members grow into global citizens who are prepared for employment in the global economy, as well as knowledgeable and appreciative of cultures.
