The Welding Technology program gives you hands-on training with real welding tools while teaching the principles used in today’s workforce. You will learn to read technical drawings, build and repair metal structures, and use equipment safely. This program prepares you for entry-level jobs in manufacturing, construction and fabrication. You’ll also get guidance from experienced instructors who help you build confidence as your skills grow.
Learn how to safely use welding tools, read mechanical drawings and build metal assemblies that meet industry expectations. Training covers core welding processes, fabrication skills and the knowledge needed to meet or exceed common industry benchmarks. Graduates are prepared for entry‑level jobs across manufacturing and construction. You will also practice problem‑solving skills that build confidence on real job sites.
No prior welding experience is required. You only need a high school diploma or GED. You do not need engineering or electrical courses. You’ll learn everything you need in your welding classes.
Welding requires personal protective equipment (PPE). Your instructor will share details, but common items include gloves, safety glasses, long sleeves, and sturdy footwear.
Some evening sections may be available depending on the semester. Check the current course schedule for options.
Central Piedmont does not offer dorms or on‑campus housing. Many students commute from home or nearby apartments.
Yes, Central Piedmont is an American Welding Society accredited welding certification test facility that provides testing for both individuals and companies.
The certified welder testing program is performance-based with no prerequisite courses or certifications required. Final certification will provide "transferrable" credentials. It tests procedures used in the structural steel, petroleum pipelines, sheet metal and chemical refinery welding industries.
