This Associate in Applied Science degree program prepares you for entry-level work as a body and paint technician. The program covers collision-repair basics, industry standards and safety practices. Training is hands-on with tools and methods — such as MIG welding. You will also complete repairs, diagnostics, alignments and refinishing tasks. A required internship helps you gain experience and connect with future employers.
You’ll study how vehicles work, including electrical systems, suspension and steering, brakes, heating and air conditioning and other principles of vehicle functions. You’ll also learn about paint finishings, plastics and adhesives. You will be knowledgeable in automobile body construction and techniques of repairing, rebuilding and refinishing. Additionally, you’ll be able to prepare and interpret damage estimation reports.
After completing the program, you’ll be prepared to take the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) exam.
The facilities you will train in include four down-draft painting booths, a laser and sonar-driven frame machine, a computerized paint mixing room, and structural and non-structural labs.
The curriculum follows standards from the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (ICAR).
