Dr. Heather Hill serves as provost and vice president of academic affairs, providing executive leadership and strategic direction for nearly 300 academic programs across six campuses and online platforms.
As the chief academic officer, she oversees the development, implementation, communication and evaluation of the college’s curriculum, continuing education, and college and career readiness (basic skills, adult high school, GED) programs, as well as career services, the Small Business Center, the libraries, corporate engagement and customized training, economic development, global learning, and the college’s Truist Honors Program. Dr. Hill partners with business and industry partners to refine, tailor, and expand programming to support workforce development in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region.
Dr. Hill was appointed provost in 2022. Since joining the college in 2020, she has remained focused on student retention, completion, and preparation for entry into the workforce, introducing modernized approaches to instruction and course development, expanding transfer partnerships with four-year institutions, and launching new programs aligned to critical workforce needs in the county.
Previously, she served as vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer at Stanly Community College, where she dedicated more than 25 years of service to the community college system. At Stanly, she led instructional programs, was responsible for budget management and grant administration for the academic unit, liaised with the business and corporate community, served as the institution’s accreditation liaison, and was instrumental in helping to shape many of the college’s national student success initiatives.
Prior to this role, she oversaw the college’s school of transfer, where she led transfer initiatives and partnerships, general education transfer departments, and the college’s college and career readiness division. Hill started her career as a math and physics instructor. Throughout her career, her experience as an instructor, department head, and dean has kept her rooted in the importance of student mentorship and faculty development.
Dr. Hill is a thought leader in higher education and currently serves on several community and industry boards and committees, including the Charlotte Works Board of Directors, the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council Workforce Working Team, and the Transportation Workforce and Small Business Task Force.
She earned her Doctor of Education from Liberty University and holds a master’s in mathematics education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
