Since 1963, Central Piedmont Community College has focused on providing accessible learning opportunities for every member of the community. The college finds its greatest strength in the students, employees, and neighbors it serves.

A legacy of opportunity

Central Piedmont was established in 1963 following the North Carolina Community College Act, intentionally designed as a fully integrated institution from its first day. The college was formed by merging the Central Industrial Education Center and Mecklenburg College, creating a unified path for vocational and academic excellence. 

Centered around the historic 1923 Central High School building, the institution has evolved from a single-site school into a comprehensive multicampus system that serves as the primary engine for workforce development in Mecklenburg County.

Key milestones

Construction of the Central High School building begins, which remains the historic cornerstone of the Central Campus.

The Central Piedmont Archives is located on the third floor in Room 3250 of the Hagemeyer Library, Parr Center on Central Campus. Normal business hours are Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. It is recommended to schedule an appointment before visiting.
