Congratulations to Sharon Jones, who joined CPCC’s Corporate and Continuing Education department on July 1, 2015, to spearhead the SAS rollout for mid-career professionals through the REACH IT scholarship initiative.

Sharon recently received the 2015 STEM Leader of the Year Award from the Charlotte Business Journal during the publication’s CIO of the Year program, held at The Ritz-Carlton on Aug. 19.

The Charlotte Business Journal’s CIO of the Year program recognizes individuals who use information technology in innovative ways to optimize business processes, enable growth, create competitive advantages and improve customer service.

Sharon was selected for the award because of her involvement with SAS and K-12, which was nationally recognized at the SAS Global Conference in Dallas this past spring, where six of her high school students at Phillip O. Berry Academy presented their data analytic projects. Sharon has worked with StatsSquad (created by National Amateur Sports) and her high school students to mix STEM and sports.

This will have a significant impact on CPCC’s Reach IT SAS Programming participants going forward, as they now will have the opportunity to work with the same organization to collect and analyze data in SAS.
