VRC

The Veterans Resource Center at CPCC is a place for veterans and those who are a part of the veteran community to be supported in their academic, career, and personal endeavors.

The staff of the VRC is equipped to provide information and point clients in the right direction so that goals may be met and deserved benefits and services may be accessed with ease.

The VRC offers a welcoming reception area, comfortable social lounge, and study lab outfitted with Microsoft office software, internet and other programs to assist you.

We have a wealth of resource information to inform and connect the client at Central Piedmont Community College, the Veterans community and beyond in the Charlotte area.

Scholarships

CPCC offers a variety of scholarships to help veterans enter or re-enter the workforce. Veterans Employment Initiative scholarships are available in professional career and technical/trade career short-term training programs. Please contact the Veterans Resource Center or Office of Financial Aid/Veterans Affairs for further information.

Enrollment Steps

Admissions

Complete and submit application online at                                                                                           https://www1.cfnc.org/Applications/NC_Community_College/apply.html?application_id=1489 or at the Office of Admissions –Central High building , Room 227. Veterans receive priority registration status. To ensure you will, visit an admissions or registration window at any campus to report your veteran status.

 

Transcripts

Request copies of your official high school, college and/or military transcripts from the institutions you attended:

Army and National Guard: https://jst.doded.mil

Coast Guard: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cgi/active_duty/go_to_college/official_transcript.asp
Navy and Marine Corps: https://jst.doded.mil

Have these transcripts mailed to CPCC’s Student Records office, PO Box 35009, Charlotte NC 28235-5009. Or, bring them in sealed envelopes to the Student Records office. Finally, bring your DD214 to the Student Records office to be granted additional credits. To request a copy of your DD-214, go to http://archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/

Complete a Transcript Evaluation Request Form.

This is a necessary and important step if you want to receive credit for your previous coursework. This form prompts the records office to evaluate and transfer in those credits. Forms are located at Student Records – Central Campus, Central High Building, Room 260, or online: http://www.cpcc.edu/ican/transcript

 

Financial Aid / VA Benefits

Visit a financial aid office at any campus to pick up a VA Education Benefits packet if you intend to enroll in VA Education Benefits. Complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov to determine eligibility for Federal Financial Aid or to apply for scholarships.

 

Placement Testing

If not transferring official SAT/ACT or other acceptable placement test scores, visit the testing center to take the Accuplacer Placement Test (Central High building, Room 248). Call center for testing hours: 704-330-6886. Prepare for the placement test using the online study materials: http://www.cpcc.edu/testing_assessment/placement-testing/accuplacer-study-guides.

 

Veterans Resource Center Appointment

Make an appointment with a counselor at the VRC to have your test scores interpreted and determine an academic plan based on your desired degree program. For an appointment call 704-330-6126, or come to the center to request one. *We do not provide immediate walk-in appointments for academic advising.

 

Disabilities Services

If you need accommodations for physical, mental, or learning disabilities, visit ww.cpcc.edu/disabilities to access required forms and processes to follow. Disability Services is located on Central Campus, Terrell building, Room 219.For more information call 704-330-6621.

 

Register for Classes

Create CPCC Login and set up your CPCC e-mail account: www.cpcc.edu/services/online-services.

View College Catalog at www.cpcc.edu/catalog. Check CPCC website for the registration dates, and class offerings/schedule. Register for your classes online through your MY COLLEGE account at www.cpcc.edu/services/online-services.

 

Final Steps and Registration

If enrolled in VA education benefits, notify a VA certifying official that you have registered for classes so that they may certify your schedule. Call 770-330-6267.

Pay attention to tuition due dates and begin to regularly check your CPCC student email account.

Purchase books at the college bookstore, secure your student parking decal, have your student ID made at admissions/registrar window.
