Chapter 30

Persons who first entered active duty after June 30, 1985, are generally eligible. Some Vietnam Name Era veterans and certain veterans separated under special programs are also eligible. The veteran must have received an honorable discharge. A "general" or "under honorable condition" makes you ineligible for education benefits. The MGIB program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following release from active duty.
