Certification Process

Students using a VA education benefit for the first time at CPCC:

Your CPCC VA file must be complete for eligibility to use VA Education benefits. All students must attend the VA Annual Certification Workshop and follow the steps below to request certification:

  • Apply for your benefit
  • Complete the application steps for admission to Central Piedmont Community College
  • Submit a copy of the following documents to records
    • Member-4 or Service-2 of your DD214
    • Joint Service Transcripts or Community College of the Air Force Transcripts
    • Official High School Transcript
    • Official copies of all college, university, or non-college degree school transcripts
  • Officially register for classes
    • Students using Chapter 33 and Chapter 31 education benefits will need to submit the Request for Certification Form and Program Evaluation before charges are due to secure classes.
    • Students using Chapter 30, 35, 1606 and 1607 will need to pay the charges unless you have financial aid or a sponsor before submitting their request for certification.
  • Print your Program Evaluation to confirm that all classes are required for graduation in your program. With exception to developmental courses, labs attached to a course (example: SPA-181 is wed to the SPA-111 course), or prerequisites for degree requirements, classes that appear in the “Other Courses” section of your Program Evaluation cannot be certified.  This report can be assessed through your My College Account under your Academic Profile
    • If you have registered for classes that aren’t required, meet with your Advisor and make adjustments
  • Complete and submit the VA Certification Request Form located at www.cpcc.edu/veterans under the “FORMS” tab

After completing those steps: submit your VA Packet (http://www.cpcc.edu/veterans/forms), Certificate of Eligibility, Program Evaluation, and VA Certification Request Form to the Veterans Affairs Education Benefits Office on Central Campus in Terrell 233. Students can also submit these documents to the Financial Aid office at any of College’s area campus locations.

Students who are using their benefits at CPCC and are requesting re-certification for a new semester:

Each semester students using a VA education benefit must submit a certification request form and program evaluation to the Veterans Affairs Education Benefits Office. These forms can be sent electronically to veteransaffairs@cpcc.edu, delivered in person to 233 Terrell, or submitted at an area campus financial aid location.

Important Notes:

  • Developmental Courses (DRE and DMA courses): must take place on campus to be certified. Per federal law, online developmental courses cannot be certified.
  • Chapter 33 and online courses: Students using Chapter 33 education benefit must have at least one fully face-to-face course to receive the full entitlement of BAH. Students who are using Chapter 33 and in all online and/or hybrid courses will have their monthly stipend based on half the national average of BAH.
  • Chapter 35 in a diploma or certificate program: per federal law the college cannot certify online courses (38 U.S. Code § 3680A)
