Component Two

Improving Faculty Skills
The second component of the grant activity is designed to provide developmental faculty with the knowledge and information they need to deliver course content in ways that address high risk students' learning/cognitive styles, personality types, and specific skill deficiencies. Upon completion of the grant period, 100% of developmental faculty--both full- and part-time--will have been trained via the Student Success series of training.

Objectives:

•Develop a faculty training series to increase integration of student learning styles and student success strategies into teaching

•Develop an online supplemental instruction/tutoring program for developmental English and reading.

•The following table details the specific objectives pertaining to Component 2 we will work to achieve over the five-year period of the grant:

   Year One

2003-2004

                                            

 

*Develop and field test faculty training series to increase integration of student learning/cognitive styles and student success strategies into teaching (Faculty Team 1).

*Develop and field test computer-based tutorials for targeted developmental English students (Cohort 1)

Year Two

2004-2005

 

*Train 25% of developmental faculty to increase integration of student learning/cognitive styles and student success strategies into teaching.

*Administer computer-based tutorials for 25% of developmental English classrooms

Year Three

2005-2006

 

*Train an additional 25% of developmental faculty to increase integration of student learning/cognitive styles and student success strategies into teaching.

*Administer computer-based tutorials for an additional 25% (50% total) of developmental English classrooms


Year Four

2006-2007

 

*Train an additional 25% of developmental faculty to increase integration of student learning/cognitive styles and student success strategies into teaching.

*Administer computer-based tutorials for an additional 25% (75% total) of developmental English classrooms


Year Five

2007-2008

 

*Train an additional 25% of developmental faculty to increase integration of student learning/cognitive styles and student success strategies into teaching.

*Administer computer-based tutorials for an additional 100% of developmental English classrooms
