Strengthening Student Services
During the project, an improved model for student services via an integrated Student Success Center approach will be developed and implemented at all CPCC campuses. The Student Success Centers (targeted counseling and advising, tutoring, and learning style and personality assessments) will be completely institutionalized in the College's Enrollment and Student Services Unit at the end of the grant period.

Objectives:

Develop an expanded and improved model of student services for high risk students operating from Student Success Centers established on each of six campuses.

Establish two new assessment instruments to determine student learning/cognitive styles, and personality types.
Implement a comprehensive orientation course for entering high risk students.

The following table details the specific objectives pertaining to Component 1 we will work to achieve over the five-year period of the grant:

 

Year One

*Develop and field test an expanded and improved model of student success services with targeted students (Cohort 1).

*Identify, adapt and field test learning style and personality type assessment instruments with targeted students (Cohort 1).

*Develop and field test a one credit-hour orientation course with targeted students (Cohort 1).

Year Two

2004- 2005

*Implement the expanded and improved model of student services in a new Student Success Center at the first of six campuses.

*Administer learning style and personality type assessment instruments to 25% of 2004-2005 entering high risk students.

*Provide a one credit-hour orientation course for 25% of entering high risk students.

Year Three

2005-2006

*Implement the expanded and improved model of student services in a new Student Success Center at the second of six campuses.

*Administer learning style and personality type assessment instruments to 50% of 2005-2006 entering high risk students.

*Provide a one credit-hour orientation course for 50% of entering high risk students.

Year Four

2006-2007

*Implement the expanded and improved model of student services in a new Student Success Center at the third of six campuses.

*Administer learning style and personality type assessment instruments to 75% of 2006-2007 entering high risk students.

*Provide a one credit-hour orientation course for 75% of entering high risk students.

Year Five

2007-2008

*Implement the expanded and improved model of student services in new Student Success Centers at final three of six campuses.

*Administer learning style and personality type assessment instruments to 100% of 2007-2008 entering high risk students.

*Provide a one credit-hour orientation course for 100% of entering high risk students.
