Leadership Academy

The Student Leadership Academy (SLA) offers students engaging and interactive learning opportunities to explore the concepts, principles, and practices of effective and ethical leadership. Students are expected to develop an appreciation for ethics, character, and civility.

The SLA offers not-for-credit and voluntary workshops and seminars designed to meet the leadership development needs of students.

The guiding principles of the Student Leadership Academy are:

  • Leadership is a process, not a position.
  • Everyone has the potential to be a leader.
  • Leadership is developed through both education and experience.

The Student Leadership Academy is offered in 2 tracks:

Emerging Leaders Program
This program is designed for students who are interested in learning the fundamentals of effective leadership. Participants are not required to currently hold a leadership position; however, the desire to develop knowledge and skills should exist. Students will explore their personal leadership style and strengths and develop skills needed to work effectively with others.
L.E.A.D. Program
This program is an extension of the Emerging Leaders program and will require students to delve deeper into the meaning of leadership. This program focuses more on the practice of effective and ethical leadership. Students will be expected to present a capstone at the end of the semester.
