Saturday, January 9th, 2016: 8 AM – 6 PM (DATE TENTATIVE)
Central Piedmont Community College
Central Campus (1201 Elizabeth Ave., Charlotte, NC, 28235)
This invitational tournament will allow students to practice Science Olympiad competition skills in a structured environment against other teams, to determine how ready they are for their regional tournament(s). The best thing about an invitational tournament is that the pressure is off. This tournament is for fun (and, of course, prizes)!
Who is invited?
For the Third Annual Invitational Tournament, we will be inviting ten (12) Charlotte-area middle schools (up to 24 teams) to participate. We plan to add more middle schools and high school teams in the years to come.
The participation fee is $50 per team, to be collected on site via cash or check the day of the tournament. Invoices will be sent to schools upon request.
How can I participate or help?
CPCC has a dedicated staff of volunteers committed to ensuring the success of this event. To join this group of volunteers, please submit your information here: ((VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION OPENING SOON))
Teams will be asked to run 1-2 events each. During registration, coaches may select their top 4 choices with choices to be assigned in the order that registrations are received. In addition to ensuring that the competition is fair and closely resembles the regional tournament, coaches who run events gain valuable knowledge and experience by running an event. Coaches will be asked to provide an electronic copy of their run event(s) with the answer key(s) in advance so we can send each team home with an entire set of events. To register a team, please submit your information here: ((TEAM REGISTRATION ))
More information (maps, parking information, event schedule, etc.) will be provided as it becomes available.
For more information, please contact Carol Davis, Instructor Electrical Engineering Technology, CPCC, email:firstname.lastname@example.org, or phone: (704) 330-6938.
The 2nd CPCC Invitational was a rousing success! We'd like to thank all the teams, coaches, parents, and volunteers for a wonderful event.
The 2015 event would not have been possible without generous grant funding from the Bosch Community Fund and Time Warner Cable's Connect a Million Minds Initiative. These companies are supporters of STEM education in the Charlotte area and you can find out more about their programs and/or “like” or “follow” them on social media through the links below.
