Fall 2009

Fall 2009 CPCC Tigers

CPCC Tigers (2-7-1)

Match Reports

Week #10 - CVFU Forfeits Final Match, Exits League
CPCC side came to Ramblewood ready to play the final game of the fall season and earn a win on the field, but were denied the opportunity by a CVFU club that failed to show without prior notice.  The Tigers were handed a 1-0 win by forfiet, and CVFU were given an eviction notice, an early sign of several changes the league has planned for the spring.  As for CPCC Soccer, Coach Lopp has changes in store aimed at making some positive impacts on the club experience.

Week #9 - Premier FC Takes Down CPCC 6-2
Premier FC sits atop the Open Division for alot of reasons, many of which were on display Sunday afternoon in their 6-2 take down of CPCC.

Week #8 - Internazionale slips by Tigers 4-2
CPCC's continued improvement was evident in this match, but with no substitutes available to Coach Lopp, fatigue clearly became a factor on a rain-soaked field.  The Tigers' Keji Aderibigbe answered an early Internazionale goal just before the break.  With the scored tied at one apiece, CPCC created numerous opportunities to take the lead, but lasting damage was done on two Internazionale goals between the 65th and 70th minutes when mental breakdowns in the back allowed opposing forwards the ball with space along the end line.  A PK pushed the score to 4-1 before John Bailey converted a PK for CPCC to bring the Tigers back within two.

Week #7 - Sporting Charlotte Blanks Tigers 4-0
CPCC played perhaps one of its best 90 minutes of the season with an inspired effort against powerful Sporting Charlotte.  The Tigers continued to create several scoring opportunities throughout with a high level of organization and communication.

Week #6 - CPCC Draws with Silverbacks Select 4-4
With Solomon Togbah's two-goal performance supplemented by a goal each from Chris Satterwhite and Adam Buttte, CPCC tallied their most goals of the season.  But a defensive back line hobbled by absence and injury was unable to prevent the equalizer.

Week #5 - Attic FC hand Tigers 5-1 Loss

Oct. 10, Scrimmage - CPCC Ties Wingate 3-3

Week #4 - Charlotte United Edge CPCC 3-2
Light on numbers but strong on heart, CPCC played its finest game of the season thus far. While injuries have plagued the team in key areas, the players in attendance stepped up and had a tremendous match. Charlotte United started the scoring in the 15th minute on a breakaway goal by catching the CPCC defense too far forward.  Up to that point, the Tigers had controlled 80% of the game with precision passing and movement. Despite CPCC’s continued dominance in time of possession, an inability to finish kept the Tigers off the score sheet even as United pushed their advantage to 2-0 just before the break.

The start of the second half was promising for CPCC as they came out strong and scored early to cut the deficit to 2-1 and seize momentum of the match. The Tigers knocked on the door the entire second half but couldn’t connect, again getting caught short handed on defense for a breakaway third goal by Charlotte United. Keji Aderibigbe scored with about 5 minutes remaining in the game, but that was all CPCC could muster as the game ended 3-2. CPCC outshot United 12-5 and led in corners 5-2. It was a promising day for CPCC and work will be done this week on putting the ball in the back of the net!
CPCC has two tough games this weekend but should have a full squad now for both. Saturday, the Tigers travel to Wingate, NC to play the Bulldogs of Wingate University at 1:00PM. Sunday at 1:00PM, the Tigers return to league play versus the #1 team in the Premier League - Attic FC.  Come support your team!

Week #3 - Silverbacks Premier Tame Tigers 8-0
A superbly talented, fit, and organized Silverbacks FC Premier side had their way with the young Tigers in this one, dropping CPCC to 1-2 in league play.  The resounding 8-0 romp by the Silverbacks has Coach Lopp looking for a new line-up that can provide some defense. CPCC had one quality shot on goal for the entire game and only 3 corner kicks. They did manage to possess the ball much better than last week, but the transition from midfield to the attack is still lacking.  Help is on the way for the defense, as the team should have John Bailey back from injury next week, and Dan Satterwhite will be back from suspension for the week 5 match.  Solomon Togbah should be ready to go up front.  The goal:  Settling on a permanent rotation that will work.

Week #2 - Tigers Toppled 1-9
Week 2 presented a difficult challenge to the club. An early game time and the absence of several key players were both factors in CPCC being on the losing end of 9-1 contest with Tigres de Carolina. With only 12 players available at the start of the match, Coach Lopp was able to field a side that would hold the opponents in check for the first 15 minutes of play, but three quick goals by the Tigres put CPCC in a hole from which they were never able to emerge. Keji Aderibigbe scored at the 35' mark, cutting the deficit to 3-1.  But the Tigres de Carolina came back with a fourth goal just before the break.

The run of play continued into the second half as the Tigers got outshot (1-12) and outscored (0-5). Those that came played hard, but the Tigres controlled this one from the start, making CPCC chase for a full 90 minutes. After the match, Coach Lopp repeated the need for more toughness in the midfield while noting some second half improvement. He also pointed to the club’s overall match fitness as an area of concern, noting “The guys need to do more on their off-time to get in shape so they will be ready on Sundays.”
For CPCC, another stiff test awaits 3:00 p.m. Sunday versus the Silverbacks FC Premier. Please come and support the team at Ramblewood Park.

Week #1 - CPCC Opens with 5-2 Win Over CVFU
For Phillip Lopp's debut as coach of the CPCC Tigers Soccer, the Club delivered a resounding 5-2 result against league newcomer CVFU.  Chris Satterwhite, one of several players beginning their first season with the club, started the scoring at the 5:00 mark with a 30 yard blast that sailed past the CVFU keeper.  Veteran Tiger Keji Aderibigbe followed with the first of his two goals for the day.  CVFU answered with a breakaway goal that cut the deficit in half to 2-1, but Keji answered with his second goal, then assisted Cameron Morton to push the Tigers to a 4-1 advantage at the break.  CPCC would leverage their control of the match into a more deliberate tempo in the second half, allowing Coach Lopp to distribute playing time throughout the roster.  CPCC's lone second half goal was notched by Hector Mera.  Scoring in the match ended late in the second half as CVFU added a goal that did little more than reduce the goal differential on the league table.

Aderibigbe.JPG"Man of the Match" honors go to Keji Aderibigbe, whose tireless effort produced not only two goals and an assist, but constant anxiety and confusion in the CVFU defense.  First year keeper Gennadiy Yevsin had a strong showing in the goal with five saves.  Cameron Morton came off the bench to give the Tigers a lift with some superb play in the midfield.  While the stat sheet shows CVFU outshooting CPCC 13-10, many came near the end, and with no real chance beating the keeper.

After the match, Coach Lopp declared the Tigers "Defensively...as strong as any in the league," adding, "Midfield is where the team will focus in practices to come.  We have to be stronger there, control the midfield.  There were times during the game that the midfield vanished and our defense had too much to do."
