| About the Book: | This project is designed for independent learners who seek to become better informed about the community in which they live. It explores the political, educational and social systems available in most communities and offers information to enhance learner interaction with these systems. This video-based project can be used by individuals, tutors and classroom instructors. The project’s design provides vocabulary and conversational phrases for beginners based on real-life interviews with key community members. Subjects include medical, IRS, financial, banking, DMV, legal, neighborhood and community college information. The workbook prepares learners to watch the civic interview and will prepare them for interacting with professionals in these fields. We hope that this community-based project will be an asset to your learning facility and your learners. |

Gilda Rubio-Festa serves as Director International Community & Outreach at Central Piedmont Community College. She also works as a consultant for EFL and ESL programs nationally and internationally.
