Information for NC ACTS! Members

Key terms:

Campus Coordinator – The person who administers the NC-ACTS program on your campus. At CPCC, this is Dena Shonts.

Site Supervisor – Your supervisor at the site where you complete your service hours.

Program Coordinator – The person who administers the NC-ACTS program throughout North Carolina. This is Leslie Garvin. She works for NCCC, not CPCC.

Indirect vs. Direct Service
Consider this example, Jane tutors fourth-graders in reading and math for her service with NC-ACTS. When Jane is tutoring the children, she is engaged in direct service.

Jane hears that there will be a conference on tutoring in Charlotte. She attends the conference and learns many new things she’ll use the next time she goes to the school to tutor. This is indirect service. Although Jane didn’t tutor anyone at the conference, she improved her skills as a tutor through her attendance. Therefore, when Jane fills out her time log for that month, she will be able to include the hours she attended the conference in the total hours she reports for the month
.
Indirect service is not limited to conferences. There are many indirect service opportunities and 60 hours (20%) of your total (300 hours) may be indirect service if you like. If you have an idea for indirect service opportunity that you believe is appropriate or you’d like a list of suggestions for indirect service opportunities, please ask Dena or Brandon.

Time Logs
Link to Time Log
Time Logs must be filled out and turned in by the first of the month for the previous month’s service hours. Remember that your Site Supervisor must sign your Time Log or NC Campus Compact will not be able to credit you for the hours you’ve worked.
Separate indirect service hours (called Member Development on the Time Log) from direct service hours. Briefly describe what you did during each week, particularly when you are recording indirect service hours.
You must complete 300 total hours in order to receive your Educational Award. A maximum of twenty percent (60 hours) may be Indirect service. At least eighty percent (240 hours) must be direct service. You may have more than 240 hours of direct service as you work toward 300 hours if you choose.

On-line Reflections
You must complete two reflections during your NC-ACTS service, one each semester or two in the same semester.
You receive an e-mail each semester with the dates for the reflection sessions.
Again, you must attend two reflection sessions in order to receive your educational award.

How does that work?
