Monthly Focus: Thinking of Others
Once a ten-year-old boy kid went to an ice cream parlor. He sat near a table and asked the waiter, "How much for a medium ice cream please?" The waiter replied, "Two dollars and 10 cents". The kid started counting his money. Later he asked the price of a small cup of ice cream. The waiter, a little annoyed, answered, "One dollar and 75 cents" The boy said, "I would like the small ice cream cup." After he was served, the boy ate the ice cream, paid the bill and went away.
The waiter went to pick up the empty cup. What he saw there surprised him and he felt his eyes moisten. Near the cup, the boy had left 35 cents as his tip. Before ordering the ice cream, the boy had cared for the waiter. He had shown respect and caring. Before thinking of himself, he thought of another.
Think of others and give them polite and respectful behavior with a smile. What we focus on becomes reality. If we focus on stressors and frustrations, that becomes the jist of our day. If we think of others with simple respect and consideration, how gentle our day becomes.
