Phlebotomy
MLA 8001
General Information:
The CPCC Phlebotomy program can be completed in one semester. It is offered in spring and fall. This program is patterned on requirements of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (www.ascp.org), enabling participants to sit for certifying examinations. This program is recognized by local employers.
Program Information:
The Phlebotomy program consists of one course, MLA 8001, which is 176 hours in length. The course is divided into two parts: classroom and clinical. The first seven weeks of the course is spent in lecture classroom and/or laboratory setting with an online component. Upon successful completion of this portion of the course, students will enter into a 7-week clinical portion. Students will spend a minimum of two 7.5-hour days per week for seven weeks in a clinical setting. During this time, students will be required to perform a minimum of 100 successful “sticks” and 100 clinical hours to successfully complete the program.

Program Requirements:
- Screening test #543 (basic reading and math exam)
- Proof of high school completion (copy of diploma, GED, or transcript)
- Required Textbook, workbook and DVD package
Required Immunizations:
- Tetanus within the previous 10 yrs
- MMR - series of 2 immunizations
- Hepatitis B - series of 3 immunizations
- Varicella - series of 2 immunizations
- PPD skin test for TB - 90 days before the course begins
The cost will depend on what immunizations you have already received. Individuals who are unable to locate their immunization records must have titers drawn to verify immunity to these communicable diseases.
- Medical physical within the previous 12 months
- Urine Drug screening - 10 days before the course begins
- Criminal background check - done once the course begins
