COURT BAILIFF

POSITION: COURT BAILIFF – CITY MANAGEMENT – MUNICIPAL COURT
SALARY: $13.17-$18.43 Per Hour
SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Maintains order and security in the court room, explains court rules, cautions
offenders, and performs other Bailiff services as required.
• Escorts juries to and from the court; maintains protection of jurors when out of
court in a manner prescribed by law.
• Gives information to the public concerning time of hearings, location of courts,
and status of cases filed with the court.
• Monitors metal-detector screening to all who enter the court; maintains security
in the court lobby.
• Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

Qualifications MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma supplemented by courses in criminal justice, sociology, or a
related field and experience in work providing a familiarity with basic police
functions. Basic knowledge of computers is required. The equivalent combination
of education and related work experience may be considered.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Ability to perform office procedures and practices and prepare informational
correspondence.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of other statutes relating to court procedures
as well as knowledge of legal terminology of court work and legal process forms.
• Ability to perform office procedures and practices and prepare informational

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
• Ability to learn and explain a wide variety of technical court or department
procedures and policies.
• Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers,
supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external
customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
