Basic Law Enforcement Training

The Basic Law Enforcement Training program is a curriculum course offered for students interested in completing the certification to become a law enforcement officer in the state of North Carolina. Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is a police academy that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with the state, county, or municipal governments, or with private agencies.

The North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission mandates the topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcohol beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations.

Students must successfully complete and pass all units of study which include the certification examination mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission to receive a certificate.  Upon completion of BLET, students can earn up to 23 credit hours toward the A.A.S. degree in Criminal Justice Technology.
