Training and Learning Opportunities

Professional Development supports the ongoing development of Central Piedmont Community College as a dynamic learning organization by helping all employees access professional development opportunities. These opportunities are:

  • Based on the learning needs of our students and communities
  • Accountable to institutional goals and priorities
  • Responsive to individual needs and departmental initiatives
  • Grounded in the belief that all CPCC employees contribute to our success as a learning college.

Professional Development offers a wide range of training opportunities for CPCC faculty and staff. A list has been assembled to help supervisors assist employees in planning their training calendar for each year. It is important to note that additional training opportunities are always listed in LearnerWeb.

Twenty hours of work-related professional development activities are currently required for each full-time employee of the College. Each supervisor is responsible for determining which activities are appropriate for the 20 hours of work-related training. As a part of those 20 hours, each CPCC employee will be expected to complete the required training workshops within six months of hire.

    • College Safety and Security
    • Discrimination and Harassment
    • Policies and Procedures Overview
    • Introduction to HR Services and EAP
    • Service Excellence Standards (Training scheduled through employees’ departments)
    • Accountability and Institutional Effectiveness
    • What to Do in Case of an Emergency

Many training opportunities are directly related to job performance while others focus on personal growth and development. Volunteer opportunities at CPCC are also listed in LearnerWeb as a tool to promote and record participation. While all of these activities are worthwhile, the original intent with the 20 hours of required training was that those activities be directly related to the employee's current job. To avoid confusion, LearnerWeb will now be organized in such a way as to distinguish between these different types of activities.

Professional Development (PD) activities have been divided into the following three categories:

Job-Related Activities: PD credit will be assigned

Personal Development Activities: PD credit will NOT be assigned, but activities will be listed in each employee’s training history. PD credit for personal growth and development activities that potentially impact job performance may be granted at the discretion of the supervisor.

CPCC Volunteer Activities: PD credit will NOT be assigned, but  volunteer activities will be listed in each employee’s training history.

Review scheduled training opportunities by using the LearnerWeb tab.

Employees may receive professional development credit  for attending conferences, presentations and workshops that are work related.  To request credit, employees should first get approval from their supervisor. After participating in the event, employees must complete the online form listed on the home page of LearnerWeb.  Please allow 10 working days for your request to be posted.
