Comprehensive Articulation Agreement
The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement is an agreement between the NC Community College system and the University of North Carolina system according to this agreement, selected courses taught at a NC community college will be accepted by the universities in the University of North Carolina system.
For example, upon successful completion of ENG111, regardless of which community college teaches it, the credits will be accepted at all North Carolina state universities.
Combined Course Library
The Combined Course Library is a compilation of courses taught at the community-college level.
For example, ENG111 contains the same goals and objectives at all the community colleges in North Carolina; therefore, the course is "common" within the community college system.
Common “Core” Courses
These are courses that have been identified as part of a guaranteed transfer articulation with the University of North Carolina system.
Core Competencies
CPCC has adopted a set of core competencies that are expected of every graduate of the College. Discipline knowledge and application is expected for all graduates. In addition, all graduates are expected to demonstrate achievement in each of the following competencies that go beyond simple content mastery:
- Communication
- Critical Thinking
- Personal Growth and Responsibility
- Information Technology and Quantitative Literacy
FTE
The College is funded by the number of full-time equivalent students it has. This number is calculated when a class has met 10% of the total hours scheduled or is calculated by actual student contact hours. State funding is based on FTE. A curriculum FTE is based on one student taking 17 credit hours. Since CPCC curriculum students take an average of 7.2 hours per semester, it takes 2.2 students to make one FTE, worth about $4,728. A literacy FTE is based on one student taking 688 contact hours. Since CPCC literacy students take an average of 16 contact hours per semester, it takes 42 literacy or adult high school students to make one FTE, worth about $5,329. An occupational extension FTE is based on one student taking 688 contact hours. Since CPCC occupational extension students take an average of 21 contact hours per semester, it takes 33 occupational extension students to make one FTE, worth about $4,097.
Full-Time Student
A curriculum student registered for 12 hours or more of credit during fall or spring semester or for 9 hours or more during summer term.
General Education Courses
These courses are required in all degree programs, ensuring that graduates have the necessary general knowledge, abilities, and intellectual skills commensurate with their degrees.
