Summer Bridge Program
The purpose of the Summer Bridge Program at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) is to give students an opportunity to successfully transition from high school to college in a closed, structured and supervised environment. The goal of this program is to make students more aware of what is expected of them in college and what will be expected of them in the real world. Classes are open for creative discussion with an expectation that diversity and the opinions of others will be respected.
Summer Bridge is a six-week program in which students are enrolled in classes based on their performance on a placement test given at CPCC. Courses are offered Monday through Thursday for six weeks, and will require assignments to be completed outside of class. Fridays are left open for enrichment activities and independent or group study. Those who successfully complete the Summer Bridge Program can earn up to six hours of college credit. Students are only allowed two unexcused absences during the program. If they exceed the three absences they will be dismissed from the program.
In addition to classes in English, study skills and math, students will participate in other activities designed to build academic skills and create a sense of community. Statistics have consistently shown that students who attend summer enrichment programs complete more classes, achieve higher grade point averages, have lower drop-out rates and higher graduation rates than similar students who do not attend such programs. After completing these programs, students are more confident and self-assured both academically and socially.
Full scholarships are available for students who are selected for the program. Financial advising is also available.
Students who will be attending CPCC in the fall will get first priority. Only students who attend schools that participate in our College Connection program are eligible to apply for the program. The 2015 Summer Bridge session will run from June 22-July 30. Class time is from 8:00am-12:30pm at the Central Campus.
