Internship
Students are required to complete two semesters of an internship (CO-OP), with a minimum of 160 hours per semester. The purpose of your internship is to learn the 12 core functions of a substance abuse professional, therefore an internship site must be substance abuse specific. Once all requirements have been met, the student will meet with the Program Chair to discuss the agency that might best suit the student’s interests, strengths and schedule.
Both degree and some Certificate students are required to complete two semesters of an internship working in the field. Internship sites must be substance abuse specific, with Certified or Licensed Substance Abuse Professionals providing supervision. The specific site is based on the students’ professional interests and current schedule. Faculty will assist the student in possible locations, but it is the responsibility of the student to secure a site. The internship is generally done in the student’s last two semesters.
