Hospital Nursing Unit Secretary
General Information:
The Hospital Nursing Unit Secretary program may be completed in one to two semesters. This course is patterned on requirements of the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators (www.nahuc.org), enabling participants to sit for the national certification exam. This program is recognized by local employers.
Program Information:
The Hospital Nursing Unit Secretary program is designed to prepare individuals, through classroom instruction, to perform competently as a secretary on a nursing unit. Students will learn and perform various clerical procedures such as telephone techniques, physician order interpretation, and maintenance of the patient’s chart, scheduling appointments, and requesting supplies and/or equipment. Students will receive a certificate of completion upon satisfactorily completing all program requirements. These students will be eligible to sit for the national certification exam.
Program Requirements:
- HEA 7625 (Medical Keyboarding) or Demonstrate the ability to type 35 wpm or more. To request a keyboard test please send an email to Alliedhealth@cpcc.edu
- HEA 7320 (Hospital Nursing Unit Secretary)
Permission is only granted for HEA 7320 upon completion of HEA 7625, Testing out of HEA 7625 or Registering for HEA 7625 along with HEA 7320.

Cost: $175 per course (not including books and other College fees)
Withdrawal Policy (Occupational Extension Classes):
- All tuition will be systematically refunded by the College for any class canceled by the College.
- 100% of tuition paid will be refunded by the College if the student officially withdraws from the class prior to the first day of the class.
- 75% of tuition paid will be refunded by the College if the student officially withdraws from the class on or after the first day of the class through the 10% point of the class.
