ABOUT THE COURSE
This course qualifies you to work as an Activities Director in a nursing home or assisted living setting. This course meets the minimum qualification of federal and state regulations for nursing homes and/or assisted livings. This course is best suited for an individual who is presently, or was formerly, employed in one of these settings. Please note that students are required to purchase a textbook for this training before the first day of class. The book is available in the CPCC bookstore on Elizabeth Avenue on Central Campus. Ask for the textbook for the course number OAP 7000.
THE COURSE WORK
The course work gives students the required skills in the basic job tasks: planning, delivering, evaluating, and documenting activity services to adults in the long term care continuum. This course will prepare professionals for the essential role of promoting the quality of life through activities for residents in long term care.
To be able to successfully complete the requirements of this course, it is essential that students are able to read and write in English. This is a writing-intensive course requiring a substantial amount of documentation. If students miss more than six (6) hours of class time, they will be unable to complete the course.
