The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) has recognized Rand Ernst, program chair of Central Piedmont Community College’s (CPCC) non-destructive examination program, with its inaugural Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty award. Ernst will be presented with the award during the AACC’s annual convention, to be held April 28 – May 1, in Dallas.

The Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty Award is named in honor of former AACC President and CEO Dale P. Parnell and recognizes individuals who make a difference in the classroom.

“I am humbled to receive this award,” said Ernst. “I see graduates who have never heard of non-destructive examination complete our program, enter the workforce and create a successful career for themselves. This fills me with such pride and makes my work worthwhile. Everything else is secondary to making sure our students succeed.”

To qualify for the award, recipients must demonstrate a passion for students in the classroom; show a willingness to support students, inside and outside the classroom; participate in college committees; and go above and beyond what is required to ensure students are successful in their academic endeavors.

“CPCC employs exceptional faculty, and Rand’s accomplishment reinforces this fact even further,” said Dr. Kandi Deitemeyer, president at CPCC. “This award is a reminder of Rand’s drive to make a difference in the lives of our students. We are extremely fortunate to have him as a member of our team.”

As a distinguished faculty honoree, Ernst will also be entitled to the following benefits during the convention: a custom commemorative medal, recognition on the AACC Faculty Wall of Distinction and on the AACC website, reserved seating during Dr. James Maxwell’s keynote speaker presentation, admission to a private reception with author Jeanette Walls and more.
