Congratulations to CPCC’s Small Business Center!

The N.C. Community College System Small Business Center Network recently presented the CPCC Small Business Center with its Center of Excellence Innovation Award at the annual N.C. Small Business Advisors Conference. The award recognizes the Center for developing innovative programs and seminars that helped move entrepreneurs forward during 2017.

In April 2017, the Small Business Center hosted auditions for the hit tv show “Shark Tank.” Small business owners from near and far came to CPCC’s Central Campus to present a one-minute pitch on their business, product or idea to ABC-TV casting team members.

To prepare participants for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the Small Business Center offered a number of free workshops to entrepreneurs on how to plan the pitch, negotiate a deal, secure licensing and others.

These workshops and event were a resounding success – more than 285 individuals attended the workshops; pre-event advertising generated 1.1 million impressions; and videos posted to the Center’s Facebook page, featuring participating entrepreneurs, generated approximately 8,200 views on the day of the event.

The team’s efforts caught the attention of the N.C. Community College System and resulted in the Small Business Center being named its 2017 Center of Excellence Innovation Award recipient. Kudos to the Small Business Center on this accomplishment!
