Daniela Weinert, discipline chair for German at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), has been named president of the board of trustees for the German Language and Culture Foundation (GLCF), an organization dedicated to not only promoting the study of the German language in Carolina schools and universities, but also raising awareness of the German language and culture throughout the greater Charlotte area.

Weinert, a German native, was previously a board member of the German Language and Culture Foundation. As president, she will oversee the Foundation’s grant application and fundraising efforts, annual budget, scholarship endeavors, networking opportunities and more.

“Having had the pleasure of working with the GLCF for the last seven years, it is an honor for me to be serving as the president for the foundation,” said Weinert.  “I am looking forward to awarding more scholarships to students from many schools within the greater Charlotte area who want to get to know my native country, as the experience will help them become quality candidates for global companies.”

In addition to her new role at the Foundation, she will continue to serve as discipline chair of CPCC’s German program where she is responsible for curriculum and new program development, coordinating the study abroad in German program, implementing online courses and labs, facilitating open houses, overseeing the first German Club at CPCC and more.

One of her greatest accomplishments at CPCC has been cultivating a partnership with the German Language and Culture Foundation and educating its team on the strength of the college’s German program. As a result, the Foundation has become heavily involved with CPCC over the past seven years, granting close to $65,000 in scholarships, which has helped 25 CPCC students study abroad in Germany, and collaborating with the college in 2015 to create the Study and Work Abroad program that, to date, has given two CPCC students the opportunity to study abroad as an apprentice in a STEM field.

Weinert graduated from Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen-Nurnberg, Germany, in 1997. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and remains active within the CPCC community, serving on the College Senate as well as the Diversity Committee, Faculty Welfare, Student Welfare and Web Advisory teams.
