CPCC’s Aspire Bakery and Bistro to host open house February 28
Central Piedmont Community College’s (CPCC) Aspire Bakery and Bistro will host a free open house for the public to attend next Thursday on the CPCC Harris Campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample a variety of delicious appetizers and desserts prepared by the College’s Baking and Pastry Arts (BPA) students.
The culinary treats featured at the open house will be produced fresh in CPCC’s kitchens by BPA students, and are available for sale to the public each day during the fall and spring terms. The eatery is a self-supported enterprise with all proceeds benefitting student activities, scholarships, extracurricular education and resources. In the past, Aspire’s revenue has helped BPA students take educational culinary trips in the U.S. and abroad.
In addition to producing delectable food, Aspire produces tomorrow’s business leaders. That’s because it’s operated daily by students earning their cooperative education credits for the semester. In addition, second-year CPCC BPA associate degree students are required to serve one week as an Aspire employee and another week as its manager as part of their Capstone class. This leadership experience allows students to gain valuable hands-on knowledge about running a business, which they may want to pursue after graduation.
Aspire is open to the public during CPCC’s fall and spring semesters. It operates Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.; and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is welcome to visit any time during these hours to purchase its daily variety of mouthwatering baked goods and desserts, handmade chocolates, soups, garden fresh salads, gourmet sandwiches and aromatic coffees and teas.
