CPCC is offering Feature/Editorial Writing (JOU217) for the first time at the PBS Charlotte television station in fall 2014. The station, located at 3242 Commonwealth Avenue, is on the CATS bus line as well.

Feature Writing is part of CPCC’s new, expanded journalism curriculum. The course is a college transfer elective and is included in the Mass Communication/Journalism pre-major. UNCC also accepts JOU217 as the equivalent of the Feature Writing course the university offers.

Feature/Editorial Writing students will be writing timeless features, topical editorials, entertainment reviews and human interest profiles. The students also will market their writing as freelancers to print and/or online publications.

  • The course meets Tuesday/Thursday: 11:15 a.m.-1:05 p.m., WTVI, 3242 Commonwealth Avenue, just three miles from Central Campus
  • Pre-requisites: ENG111 and JOU110 (with “C” or better)
  • Register soon. This class is not offered every semester.

“Students will benefit from a terrific state-of-the art classroom for these courses with computer stations and video editing software that is housed in the WTVI building,” said Liz Rogers, journalism instructor. “The technology provides outstanding opportunities for hands-on learning in the mass media field.”

The college also is offering Introduction to Journalism (JOU110) at the TV station.

JOU110 will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 -10:45 a.m., and JOU217 will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:15 a.m. - 1:05 p.m. at the television station in August. ENG111 is the prerequisite course for JOU110, and JOU110 is the prerequisite for JOU217.
