CPCC will offer Introduction to Journalism (JOU110) and Writing for Mass Media (JOU216), college transfer journalism classes, at its WTVI PBS Charlotte television station for the first time in spring 2014.

Introduction to Journalism provides the core reporting, writing and editing skills for news, feature and sports journalism. JOU110 also fulfills UNC Charlotte’s news writing course and writing intensive requirements. Writing for Mass Media covers reporting, writing and editing for print, Web, radio, television, public relations and advertising media. Both courses currently transfer as college transfer electives and are part of CPCC's Mass Communication / Journalism pre-major.

“The college has built a terrific state-of-the art classroom at its PBS Charlotte building that boasts computer stations and video editing software for our students to use,” said Liz Rogers, journalism instructor. “Students have been enjoying the hands-on opportunities the classes and the technology provide.”

JOU110 will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:30 -10:45 a.m., and JOU216 will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:15 a.m. - 1:05 p.m. at the television station starting Jan. 13. ENG111 is the prerequisite course for JOU110 and JOU216.
