CPCC dedicates International Student Services Center in honor of Kal Kardous
Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) dedicated its International Student Services Center in honor of Kal Kardous, a Charlotte entrepreneur and member of the CPCC Foundation Board of Directors, on Oct. 10.
The college dedicated the center, located in the Central High building, on CPCC’s Central Campus, in recognition of Kardous’ generosity and commitment to broaden opportunities for international students as a CPCC Foundation board member.
Kardous joined the Foundation’s board in 2016 with a commitment to helping enhance the educational, civic, business and cultural life of Charlotte-Mecklenburg. An entrepreneur who founded Charlotte Copy Data in 1988 and oversaw its development as one of the largest independent office equipment companies in the southeast, Kardous has garnered several accomplishments during his career, including raising awareness of international education across the region.
The center, now known as the Kal Kardous International Student Services Center, served as the site of the 6 p.m., dedication ceremony. Those speaking during the ceremony included Dr. Tony Zeiss, CPCC president; Dr. Kevin McCarthy, vice president of institutional advancement at CPCC; Dr. Marcia Conston, vice president of enrollment and student services at CPCC; and Kardous.
“Thank you for supporting our international students who enrich our college in so many ways,” said Conston. “Six out of 10 of our Student Government Association presidents are international students. They bring great leadership skills, as well as cultural diversity to our student population.”
The Kal Kardous International Student Services Center is home to administrative offices and substantial meeting and laboratory spaces for students. It will help provide counseling, advising and other support services to the college’s international community, which includes more than 5,000 students from 163 countries.
