CMS student receives Debbie Antshel Memorial CPCC Scholarship
Cing Za (Julia) Lun, a graduating senior of Garinger High School’s Leadership and Public Service Academy, was named the 2012 recipient of the fifth annual Debbie Antshel Memorial CPCC Scholarship. Julia was presented with the scholarship during a special May 24 presentation that was attended by CPCC President Tony Zeiss, Ph.D., and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) leaders.
The scholarship honors the memory of Debbie Antshel, a longtime community advocate and supporter of education, who spearheaded a leadership program at CPCC that empowered high school students to earn their GED, find employment and become community leaders.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools Foundation, together with Ms. Antshel’s family, presented Julia with a check for $2524.20 to help fund her college education for the 2012-2013 academic year. An immigrant of Myanmar (Burma), Julia plans to attend CPCC in the fall. After college graduation, she wants to become a nurse and provide expert care that will help others lead a healthier lifestyle.
