Board of Standards, Inc. renews CPCC’s CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certificate Program

Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) announced today that the Board of Standards, Inc. has renewed its Corporate and Continuing Education CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANER™ Certificate Program for the third consecutive year. As a result, CPCC remains one of only three community colleges in the nation approved to offer a certificate program – Manchester Community College in Manchester, Conn., and Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Neb., are the other two community colleges.

To be renewed, CPCC had to meet several new requirements for 2012 that were set by the Board of Standards, Inc. These included the addition of a new 45-hour practicum course – The Financial Development Plan – as well as additional course content to meet the new total program requirement of 275 hours. CPCC also submitted (for Board approval) all new syllabi, course outlines and textbooks to be used during the seven-course program and four, new faculty hires, needed to accommodate the program’s additions.

Over the course of one year, students enrolled in CPCC’s CFP® Certificate Program receive instruction in financial planning, insurance planning, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning and estate planning.

While the program’s curriculum is both vigorous and challenging, it is where the program is housed that makes it unique. A significant number of the United States’ CFP® programs are located at four-year universities, and are associated with bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. CPCC’s CFP® Certification Education Program is a stand-alone certificate program, offered through Corporate and Continuing Education at the College. Students who enroll must already have a bachelor’s degree and meet four core requirements – education, exam, experience and ethics – before they may earn the CFP® designation, the defining benchmark for investment knowledge in the financial services industry.
