Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) announced today that the Board of Standards, Inc. has renewed its Corporate and Continuing Education CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®) Certificate Program with commendation. As a result, CPCC remains one of only two community colleges in the nation approved to offer a CFP® certificate program – Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee, Florida, is the other.

CPCC’s certificate program is delivered in a traditional classroom setting, boasts seven courses totaling 273 contact hours, and covers 72 topics as required by CFP® Board criteria. Over the past two years, CPCC’s learning resources and faculty met or exceeded all of the CFP® Board’s criteria, earning CPCC’s program the “with commendation” designation.

Since 2009, CPCC’s one-year, CFP® Certificate Program has given students the opportunity to receive instruction in financial planning, insurance planning, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning and estate planning. After satisfactory completion of the required coursework, students must complete a 45-hour Financial Plan Development practicum.

While the program’s curriculum is both vigorous and challenging, it is where the program is housed that makes it unique. A significant number of the United States’ CFP® programs are located at four-year universities, and are associated with bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. CPCC’s CFP® Certification Education Program is a stand-alone certificate program, offered through the Corporate and Continuing Education division of the college. Students who enroll must already have a bachelor’s degree and meet four core requirements – education, exam, experience and ethics – before they may earn the CFP® designation, the defining benchmark for investment knowledge in the financial services industry.

The program’s first class of the 2017-2018 semester begins September 5. Seats are still available. To register or to learn more about CPCC’s CFP® Certification Education Program, please visit
