2011 Spring Employee Recognition Award Winners
Part-time Employee
This winner has been a diligent advocate for our disabled student population for over five years. She is dedicated to securing the most viable assistive tools for her students and she works effectively to enhance the services of the department. Working to incorporate up-to-date technology into the program, she has enriched the academic experiences of many students. Karen Franklin’s work ethic, persistence, and focus on learning have benefited CPCC’s students and increased the likelihood of their success.

Classified Staff
Many of her co-workers nominated this Classified Staff award winner. They proudly assert that she epitomized the essence of customer service, and was continually focused on the needs of our students. One person called her a troubleshooter; claiming that she could—and would—solve any problem she faced.
She brought out the best in people because she was always giving her best. One nominator said even while facing challenging personal events in her life, she never lost her sense of self, her love for life, or her integrity. That made such an impression on her co-workers and demonstrated to them the true measure of this remarkable woman.
This winner, Wanda Acklin, is a humble and committed employee who recently retired and was a real credit to our college.

Faculty
The faculty member selected for this recognition is known for her impact on her students, the College, and the community at large. Her co-workers have heard about her superb teaching from her students, and know how hard she works to provide them with great learning experiences.
However, she does even more than that. This person has voluntarily arranged to take students to China for the past three years so that they can benefit from an international perspective through a study abroad program. She has also enriched not only the College but also the community by arranging for a variety of speakers at the Global Issues Forums. Her exceptional level of insight, her marketing skills, and her organizational abilities have made these events well-regarded and well-attended programs.
This semester’s winner is Nadine Russell from the Business and Accounting Program.

Administrator
Many people nominated the winner in the administrator category, and each nominator stressed that she is a true advocate for student success. Known for her innovation and dedication to the College and its students, she has pioneered many of the best practices relating to student success that have become a part of our daily operation. She is an intelligent, hard-working, and dedicated administrator who seeks to have a positive influence.
Those who work with her laud her leadership abilities, including polished communication skills and the ability to cooperate effectively on challenging projects. As a collaborative leader, she goes out of her way to invite the best thinking from all with whom she works.
Based on a love of learning, she makes sure she provides multiple opportunities for growth and professional development to her co-workers. A new instructor who was interviewed to teach in her program says that she decided to work at the College when she witnessed Laura Bazan’s deep passion for what she does every day for our students.
