Employee Recognition Awards - 2007 Annual
The nomination for the Classified Staff winner begins, “I have never seen anyone more dedicated to the job than this person.” That is quite a statement. It goes on to s
ay that she comes to work hours early and stays late. When the new IT building opened, this person worked diligently behind the scenes installing computers and software, reimaging computers, and coordinating course set up requirements. This background work is what enables our faculty and staff to provide the effective learning environment that we can offer to our students at CPCC.
While this person is an inspiration to her co-workers for her work ethic, more importantly, she is admired for the person that she is. She develops relationships with her co-workers and students that continue even after they have left CPCC. She treats her employees as she would her own children, being honestly interested in their well-being and development. Whether it is her diligence in job performance, her empathy in helping students, or her informative nature with coworkers, she does all of these things with a willing and friendly heart.
Please recognize one of CPCC’s greatest assets, our classified employee of the year from Instructional Technology Services – Page Kelly.
FACULTY 2007 ANNUAL AWARD WINNER: Wilma Hood
This instructor’s coworkers tricked her into being here today by saying that I was
going to recognize the phenomenal pass rate of the nursing students for the past year—and by the way, it was 96%-the highest of all 6 nursing programs in the city and they have dramatically improved their student retention rate to the highest it has ever been. It is because of our extraordinary faculty that our students continue to succeed and reach their goals.
This winner knows nursing education inside and out. She is an asset to the College and to our students. Having forged many relationships in the Charlotte nursing community, she is able to arrange clinical placements for our students that provide the best learning experiences. She is patient and calm, and offers a style of communication that is clear and articulate. In order to be sure our students have benefit of the latest medical advances, she attends state and national conferences, and shares her learning with the other faculty.
This winner has always been student and learning focused, and exemplifies poised and professional behavior. Wilma Hood has been the role model for many of our successful nursing students. Please join me in recognizing the faculty member for 2007.
This winner has been an outstanding employee at CPCC for over 10 years, gradually assuming roles with additional responsibilities. This employee has als
o worked tirelessly for the benefit of professional staff while serving as their liaison to the College Senate.
She is the type of person who believes that everyone deserves the best and will go the extra mile with a positive outlook. She is always trying to make things convenient and worthwhile for others. As a peer mentor with so much expertise, her support and encouragement make every moment a learning experience for others.
Her commitment to faculty and staff is only exceeded by her commitment to CPCC students. She is an enthusiastic volunteer at numerous events and is constantly lending a helping hand with a willing attitude.
She is an innovative self-starter with a beautiful spirit. Her nominators wanted to show their appreciation and honor the work of someone they so highly value. As one stated, this award is long overdue, but since Denise Wells headed the Employee Recognition Committee for years, they couldn’t nominate her until now.
Finally, let’s thank Denise and recognize her as the Professional Staff person for 2007.
